When you hear the word metallic you think gold, silver and bronze. Not anymore, Burberry have taken metallic and made it bigger and brighter with colours!! The Burberry SS13 show looked like an explosion of Quality Street chocolates on the runway, I absolutely love it. It reminds me of childhood and when you wanted everything in a brighter, shinier and prettier version.
Just when you thought the iconic Burberry trench coat couldn’t get any better, for SS13 it has been revamped with every metallic colour imaginable along with a contrast coloured accessory to match.
Various other designers have also used metallic colours in their collections, keeping shapes and textures simple and letting the colours do the talking. I love the red biker jacket by Jean Paul Gaultier.
I think metallic is a great way to embrace colour this spring, we are already wearing it thanks to American Apparel and the disco pants, why not kick it up a notch and shine on with more metallics. For a long time we have been under the illusion that if its shiny it’s not for daywear. Gradually we are growing out of this comfort zone and introducing these colours to our day time outfits more and more. It allows us to not only add interest and character to a simple outfit but as a bonus we can take our day outfits through to the night at no extra effort, only a fresh lick of lipstick and some high heels required!
There are so many products out there, whether it be in clothes or accessories, allowing you to express your style in your individual way, some prefer smaller items…
Or even smaller….
For those who prefer statement items…
I absolutely love the Geox and Patrick Cox coloured broques, I need these in my life. I don’t think I could even pick a colour, I want them all!
Does metallic do it for you? Or will you be staying away from these colours?
